57th Annual Dinner A Huge Success

Sutherland Shire Football Association recently held its 57th Annual Dinner at Doltone House.

The gala event saw a great time had by all. In keeping with the 2008 format, the Association handed out Merit Awards in front of a packed house of more than 400 people. It was fitting that the Merit Award winners received their accolade in front of such a large and appreciative crowd.

The 2009 recipients were rewarded for magnificent contributions to their Club.  Recipients for 2009 were as follows:

Peter Burgess – Bonnet Bay
John Devlin – North Sutherland
Brad Grogan – Georges River
Jenny Howell – Cronulla RSL
Garry Kabakov – Sylvania Heights
John Lane – Loftus Yarrawarrah
Brian Macklin – Menai Hawks
Andrew Marshall – Engadine Crusaders
Graeme Morris – Bangor
Bob Rivett – Miranda Magpies

All were worthy winners and each illustrated that sport is as much about what you give as what you receive.

As an aside, many in the crowd were motivated to find out what John Lane’s portfolio included. It is expected that nominations for committee positions at Loftus, on the strength of John’s recruitment methods, will increase.

In addition to the Merit Awards, a number of other prestigious Association awards were presented.

Harrie Dening Cup - Lilli Pilli
(Awarded to the Champion Club participating in PL 1, AL 2 & AL 3 Competitions)

Sutherland Association Cup - Menai Hawks
(Awarded to the Champion Club participating in AL 4-16 Competitions)

Stan Ellis Cup - Marton
(Awarded to the Champion Club participating in Women’s Competitions)

Rick Napier and Andy Page Memorial Shield - Menai Hawks
(Awarded to the champion Club participating in Over 35 Competitions)

Junior Men’s Champion - Lilli Pilli
(Awarded to the Champion Club participating in Men’s 11-21 Competitions)

Junior Women’s Champion - Lilli Pilli

Thanks to all the Clubs who attended and made the night a memorable one.

The dancing was ‘fierce’ and many individuals displayed ‘moves’ not seen since season’s end.

All in all, a wonderful conclusion to Season 2009!
