The Engadine Crusaders Soccer Club came into being after a small meeting of
about twelve people on a Sunday afternoon late in 1967. The meeting was held
at the Engadine Methodist Church and consisted of several local ministers and
a few parents. It was an informal affair held sitting in the afternoon sun.
The main reason for the meeting was to discuss the formation of a church based
club. The main aim of the formation of the club was to have games played on
Saturdays and leave Sundays for church activities.
The first uniform was a half-maroon/ half-white jersey, white shorts and maroon
socks with a white band at the top. On the jersey there was a maroon shield
with a white cross in the centre and the logo, which read For God and Sport.
During the first year Preston Park was shared with Engadine Eagles on alternate
Saturdays. On the off days we used the lower half of Heathcote High School.
In the first year we had a working bee at the Engadine Brethren Church opposite
ANZAC oval, where we cleared and mowed their land to gain enough space to have
training between the remaining trees. It wasn't flat but it served its purpose
until other arrangements were made.
The first canteen was 15'x15' Marquee, which was put up and pulled down each
week at Preston Park. Through the outstanding effort from the ladies committees
over the years in fundraising base on our Christian beliefs, we have today's
clubhouse.
With the cost of travel rising and the distance we had to travel around Sydney
to play our games we decided into moving teams into SSJSFA. After many long
meetings and some soul searching we moved our junior teams into the SSJSFA,
with our senior teams still with the Churches Association.
The last three years we had one senior side in the SSJSFA and the other senior
sides in the churches associations. 2002 was a milestone event for the Club
when all teams, juniors and seniors, teams played in the SSJSFA.
For such a small Club we have had outstanding success in both the Churches
and the SSJSFA.
The Crusaders Soccer Club can thank many men and ladies for their effort in
running the Club so that in our 35th year we are still running strong. Also
we cannot forget the coaches, mangers for their time in running the teams so
that the boys and girls can enjoy the great game of soccer.
