Ten years after the formation of the Sutherland Junior Association, a band
of enthusiastic parents connected with Sutherland North Primary School decided
it was time to form a Junior Soccer Club in the area and enter it in the weekend
Competition.
With very little finance at first but with an abundance of dedication, teams
took the field in shirts made by the ladies and any type of footwear that was
suitable, with Jack Mawson (its first President), running a kiosk from the back
of a station wagon.
Since those days, the Club has continued to find people of true dedication.
People such as Gwen Gould, Maurie Keane, Jan Gibson, Brian Henderson, Geoff
Saggers, Frank Blinman to name but a few.
Facilities have now been vastly improved with a kiosk and modern lighting on
its home ground at Sutherland No. 2.
Although "The Rockets" were and possibly will continue to be one
of the smaller clubs in the Association, there is no doubt that the enthusiasm
and dedication of their founders will continue to thrive amongst its ranks,
now and in the years to come.
