Since a humble beginning just under 30 years ago, Bonnet Bay Football Club in 2010 proudly boasts a strong range of men’s teams including U21A, PL1 and AL2 while women’s football has surged on the back of SWA, W21A and W18A teams. Importantly we have developed teams under these that mean we can cater to a range of skill levels within our club. To complement this we have solid O35’s and Womens Over 30s squads and a growing junior foundation, with the entire membership and the extended family enjoying a community culture that the club jealously guards. A critical factor in developing this culture is that around one-third of our players are females and women are well represented too at committee level.

This ‘community culture’ has become an integral part of the fabric of the close-knit Bonnet Bay and Woronora communities with the dedication of club members over the years resulting in Lakewood Reserve and Prince Edward Park developing into arguably the most picturesque field locations in “The Shire” to enjoy playing football and relaxing afterwards. These splendid settings along the Woronora River have become a focal point for the community residents and friends and the hub upon which the strong Bombers spirit has developed. Many visiting clubs take advantage of this by organising picnic or other social activities when visiting.

We are proud to have seen many of our players go on to representative honours over the years, and prouder of the fact that most rejoin the Club after these commitments when it is tempting to play in larger, more recognised clubs. Like all clubs we aspire to success on the field, but our aim is to help each player achieve his or her potential and learn the life lessons that come from participating as part of a team and club. We are also proud of our contribution to refereeing ranks with male and female products of our club having achieved high rankings.

A strong off field social program which includes regular events such as Golf Days, Themed Mid-Season Functions, Monthly Social Events at the Bay, Presentation Nights and the Lime Army which assembles at finals time to follow all our teams ensures our club culture continues to develop.

The continual development of players is an aspect that has culminated in the ‘Player Development Program’ now administered by BBFC and is aimed at fostering players through their development and catering for their skills and training needs. Going forward we intend to make major commitments towards Club coaching structures and further improvement to our facilities which will achieve these results

The 5 year plan for the BBFC, which was unveiled at the 2009 AGM should see BBFC be prominent in the SSFA for years to come
