Gymea Soccer Club commenced as Gymea Sports Club, which included Soccer, Rugby
League, Cricket, Netball, Athletics. The first meeting for the Soccer Club was
held in February 1960 with the elected officers being. Cyril O'Neal as President,.
Ken Williams as Secretary and Bill Taylor as Treasurer.
Seven teams were entered with the Sutherland Association.
The second year saw the formation of Nursery training and the introduction
of the now famous Green and White Strip and with 14 competition teams.
A converted building was then donated by the Sutherland Council an this constituted
the first Club canteen. The first floodlighting at the oval was erected by moneys
loaned by parents, which was eventually repaid by moneys raised by the hardworking
Social Committee.
The Sports Club disbanded in 1964 and Gymea United Junior Soccer Club became
an independent body.
Gymea Giants continues to grow and to be one of the prominent clubs in the Association
with teams in all age groups and divisions.
